SCI Did Not Stop This Tough German

Schaeuble
When I first was paralyzed, I searched everywhere for people who had
risen to the top of the profession despite severe disability. I
wanted to see doctors, lawyers, politicians, CEOs or scientists who
were the
best at what they did, despite spinal cord injury. It was
moderately disturbing to me when it was really difficult to find many
examples. With an unemployment rate of over 70% if you are
paralyzed, the problem was that there aren't too many to choose from.

Schaeuble, Denied by Merkel, Defies Doctors in Saving Euro
Wolfgang Schaeuble is basically a badass. A tough, stubborn, hard-core German leader. He is the finance minister of Germany who would have been chancellor (the German equivalent of president) if the political winds had been slightly different. He did all of this despite having been paralyzed for 20 years.
He was shot when he was 47, so he accomplished a lot when he was
able-bodied and was able to leverage those successes after he became
paralyzed. Either way, is certainly admirable to see a 67-year
old paralyzed guy making history as a policymaker despite his
condition.

"After an assassination attempt by a deranged man in 1990 left him paralyzed from the chest down, he returned to work within three months. Schaeuble, a chess player and music lover who used to play the violin, is regularly seen around Berlin exercising on a handbike."
