Inspiration:

A little over a year ago I rolled my truck in Nebraska. I spent about a month at Creighton University Hospital suffering a broken neck and spinal cord injury. Then I was moved to Craig Hospital in Colorado for another month and a half. At Craig, they had me walking again and I was lucky enough to get a PT willing to push me. From not being able to walk at all, let alone stand by myself, I was running 45 days after injury which wasn’t pretty but I did it. After about 8 months of rehab I started volunteering at Craig. I currently work in the therapy pool, and it has impacted my life like nothing else. One of the PTs that I assist used to be a big time marathoner and Tri-athlete. She started me on the right track to training and giving me the confidence to sign up for the race. When I saw the section about charities in the race application and saw that there was a charity for Spinal Cord Injuries, I was sold. I feel like I’m almost guided though life after the accident and this was just another piece of the puzzle that came to me outside of my own actions. I will be running this marathon free of braces and equipment approx 679 days after my accident.
